We originally planned on doing Big Schloss, in George Washington State Park, but learned at the very last moment that the last part of the hike, the part that actually goes to the top of Big Schloss, was closed because the footbridge was being rebuilt. But all was not lost since the same trail going in the opposite direction, was still open and offered wonderful views from the overlook known as Tibbet's Knob (in West Virginia). Like the Big Schloss hike, this hike also straddles the ridge between Virginia and West Virginia, spending time in both states. So this ended up being the sixth of seven hikes we did during our five-night stay in Luray, Virginia, and the first and only one we did in West Virginia.
