Turkey Brook Park, North

Turkey Brook Park, North (6/3/2023)

Last week we hiked the trails in the southern part of this park. Today we hiked the trails (mainly the White blazed one) north of Flanders Road.

Using this map, like last week we parked in the large dirt lot (not indicated on this map) off Flanders Road, about where the Yellow and White trails on the map cross. We headed north on White, all the way to its end, on Old Budd Lake Road. We stayed on the White trail heading north, but when we retraced out steps to head back, we followed at least three other trails which left White, but later returned. One wasn't blazed, another was blazed Blue and the last was blazed Red (this one is seen on the map).

As I noted six years ago, the swamp just north of Old Mine Road is one of the most picturesque swamps I've seen in the tri-state area. And once again there were great blue herons nesting at the tops of many of the drowned trees in the swamp, at one point feeding their babies. It was a gift to watch!

Total distance walked was nearly 5 miles in just under 3 hours.
