Liberty Loop

Liberty Loop, Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge (8/20/2016)

This is the second of two hikes we did today in this lovely area on the border of New Jersey and New York. This trail is actually accessible from the parking area for the Winding Waters trail (our previous hike today). But that requires a quarter-mile road walk on Oil City Road (on the shoulder, which can be a bit unpleasant) to reach the NW entrance to the loop. Instead of walking, we drove from one point to the other. The parking lots are 0.5 miles apart.

Using this map, we parked in the large lot south of Oil City Road and did the incredibly beautiful loop in a counter-clockwise direction. It should be noted that this hike actually spans two states. The northern third, or so, is in New York, while the rest is in New Jersey!

Total distance for this hike was just over 2.5 miles in 85 minutes.
