This was the fourth of five hikes we did during a five day stay in Ithaca, New York, in the Finger Lakes district of New York state. If you only have time for one waterfall
hike in this area, this is the one. The Gorge trail is filled with beautiful waterfalls and cascades. You feel like you're in another world.
Following this map we parked in the large lot east of the park office and began
by climbing the Rim Trail. You feel like you are more in nature here because there isn't a fence for much of the way here (like there is in Taughannock). We headed south all the
way to the Bear trail which we took south all the way to the Lake Treman trail. We circled the lake in a counterclockwise direction, retraced our steps on the Bear trail and
then headed into the gorge along the spectacular Gorge trail. With 10 minutes of entering the gorge the skies opened up and rains came pouring down, so the camera went inside my
rain slicker, but I still managed to get some great shots.
Total distance hiked was 5 miles in 3.5 hours.
