This is hike #9 ("Beech Mountain") in "Chapter 2: Down East" of the book
Foghorn Outdoors' Maine Hiking (First Edition)
and also hike #4-13 ("Beech Mountain") in the book
A Walk in the Park: Acadia's Hiking Guide (Tenth Edition).
This was the seventh of nine hikes we did in Maine the week of May 10.
This is the first of three hikes we took on the western side of Mount Desert Island, but still part of Acadia National Park. There are several ways to get to the top of Beech Mountain, the only mountain in the park with a fire tower. We took what is probably the quickest route, making this hike relatively short but one which still afforded super views, especially over Long Pond.
