This is the Hike of the
Week for
5/29/2003 as described on the NY-NJ Trail Conference website. We did this hike back in mid November of 2009. Today, four years later, we did it in reverse at the
absolute peak of fall foliage. This might have been the most spectacular fall foliage hike we ever did in New Jersey. The colors inside the woods were stunning. Most of
the day it was sunny, with shimmering backlit leaves, and the trail drowned in colored light through those leaves. As I noted last time, the only problem with this hike
is the closeness to the Palisades Interstate Parkway, which can be easily heard the entire extent of the upper half of the hike. But it's still worth it, especially with
these colors. Judging by the amount of leaves on the trees, the next week may still be amazing, so head out there before all the leaves are on the ground.
Total distance hiked today was about 5.9 miles in about 3.5 hours. (Click on the thumbnail to bring up a bigger image in a pop-up window)
